RLn - Casualty or Muffin?

A hot day in August. Sympathetic consideration has to be given to those, young in heart but questionably aged in mind, who chose The Chalk Pit Farm at Beaksbourne as the outward venue for the coffee break. A challenging route, traversing numerous North Downs' contour lines, destined to exercise lungs and muscles.

Being unaware of the fortunes of those that fell by the wayside en-route, namely, Bill's K and V, David Ltn and John G, (last seen and heard of in the environs of Finglesham), no doubt an epistle of their afflictions will be added to this dispatch. Suffice to say that Howard, Richard Lng, Tom, new comer Michael Elms (welcome to our group) and your correspondent, eventually fell thankfully into the café chairs. Usual conversation followed until Richard's face, he having taken a single bite of a chocolate muffin, looked extremely ashen. Leaving the table, pleading dizziness and exhaustion/de-hydration, he wobbled outside for a breath of fresh air and after some time revived to make a decision to return home via train from Beaksbourne station.

The group, now down to four in number, rode back against an ever increasing easterly wind, unfortunately nullifying the benefits of the returning gradient. At Poison Cross Howard left for Worth, leaving Tom and I seeking nourishment in the Five Bells public house at Eastry prior to continuing our journey back to Deal.

A welcome e-mail from Richard informs me he has recovered, and that due to a dysfunctioning train ticket machine he had a free ride to Shephherdswell, from where he rode home. Hardly an easy ride to Sandwich for one so suffering- but there again young in heart, questionably aged in mind! (LA)

... if I was of another sex my self diagnosis would have been a hot flush, indicative of the menopause? As it is ... don't know .. dehydration, sugar rush ..? (RLn)

Obviously something untoward happened on your Chalkpit Farm odyssey - hope all’s well that ends well. Bill and I were there very quickly and returned before you all arrived!!! True, except that our destination was the Garden Centre at Staple. We managed 20 miles, more than double what I did last week so I’m on the way back. (JG)
