Good start to the New Year! Nine riders and one hung over pedestrian (Stan) at the pier: John's G & P, Mike's E & S, Tom, David, Richard, Jonothan and Bill K. Easy decision; a circular ride ending up at John G's place for refreshments. The route; Deal - Sandwich - Woodnesborough - Eastry - Deal. Apart from an annoying nagging north-westerly (was forecast south-westerly) the conditions were excellent for cycling; dry, high cloud and not particularly cold.

The ride to Sandwich was uneventful except for the unusual sight of Richard occupying my old position of "Tail-end Charley." Then came the more undulating ride through Woodnesborough to Eastry, although I nearly missed the left turn to take us down Foxborough Hill, which made me realise I had never been on that road before. I arrived at Eastry centre to find John P already there checking his new Christmas present, a state of the art action camera. The resulting film of this ride that he's put together is well worth the watch.

A quick call home to give my better half warning of how many we were and how long we'd be and we were off again, down the steep hill towards Finglesham, climbing up, then over Eastry Bypass bridge and passing Gipsy City then the Blazing Donkey. A pause to wait for Mike E and Richard, the latter obviously struggling somewhat, resulted in those two Sandwich residents deciding to peel-off and take in the Crown in Finglesham and then return home.

The remaining seven, made up of five e-bikes and two leg-only members, then made a straightforward run back to my place where Swedish Glögg and some pastry delights awaited us. Somewhere close to 20 miles for me on an excellent day for cycling and a great way to wish in the new year. (JG)
