Stan was 27 today (Think Morecombe &Wise with Previn and "not necessarily in the right order")
10 riders today:, John G, Tom, Mikes L, M, & S, Jonathon, Simon, Richard, Bill K and the aforementioned Stan. Lance put in a brief cameo appearance at the pier but on his old leg-only bike. Sadly his new e-steed had suffered a catastropic collapse of the gears and was currently in hospital hoping for good health in readiness for next week's continental trip.
Conditions were good; mild easterly, light cloud with sunny spells, pleasant temperature, all of which pointed to a good ride. Chalkpit Farm was the target venue.
Intended route plans went by the wayside when after Finglesham the peloton continued straight on to the Blazing Donkey instead of the turning right to ride through Felderland. After Eastry we continued straight ahead, aiming for Lower Rowling and then passing by Gibson's before descending through Wingham Well, Bramley and then Bekesbourne.
The excellent refreshments at Mama Feelgoods were kindly paid for by birthday boy.
The return journey featured many different routes despite my efforts to retain a united peloton. All headed to Adisham where a pair of Mikes turned left and the rest went straight - I did both! However we all seemed to meet up at various points along the routes, ie; For history's sake I turned onto the track that runs past Goodnestone House while the rest went straight on. And yet we arrived at the crossroads above Lower Rowling at exactly the same time. Retracing the outward route meant: Eastry, Blazing Donkey, Fingelsham and Sholdan. A three hour trip and 30 miles for me. (JG)
